SmallRig Full Cage for Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K & 6K (New Version) 2203B is a form-fitting cage. It is securely locked to the camera by 1/4’’-20 screws on the top and bottom, with additional locating pins and rubber pads on the base plate preventing wiggles and scratches. On the top and left side of the cage are built-in NATO rails, where you can attach SmallRig NATO Top Handle 1955 or SmallRig Wooden NATO Side Handle 2187 for hand-held shooting. Multiple 1/4’’-20 & 3/8’’16 threaded holes and ARRI locating holes are designed to attach accessories, such as SmallRig Ballhead Arm 2070. For users who record videos, a Samsung T5 SSD Mount 2245B would be a good choice. The cage is compatible with SmallRig HDMI & USB-C Cable Clamp 2246B to fix the cables. It works with SmallRig Metabones Adapter Support 2247 on BMPCC 4K to keep your lens stable. Besides, a built-in hex spanner is provided on the bottom plate.

The cage is great. A very important thing that is missing in my opinion is a safety button for the nato handle. When shooting run n gun, there are chances that you loosen the top handle know by accident. If that happens, the camera will slide off, and since there are no safety, your camera will end up on the floor. Other than that, great cage!
This is quite a good cage, very secure and doesn't twist. I love the nato rails for handles and the strap holes for a right hand grip strap. I feel like the SSD cage mounting point could be better placed, as they render the built in cold shoe pretty useless, and make the camera much wider than it already is. So wide in fact that it won't fit on a Movi Pro with the SSD on, and since it isn't quick releasable, I'm switching to the 8Sinn SSD cage which mounts to 15mm rods. Maybe consider a cold shoe or rod version of the SSD cage. Also the back left bar makes the port covers a bit hard to open because you can't get your fingers in far enough. Not a big deal, I just use a key to pry open the cover. Otherwise, I like the cage a lot.
Please make the corners hug the bags more. It's too blocky. Maybe an accessory for an ssd mount. 8sinn has a nice accessory for it. Maybe something similar. Just try to make the corners closer to the camera not so much space
The cage looks like a good start but a few items I would change.
The sides that have the 1/4 20 threads should also be nato rails built in. This isn’t not much extra space but extremely handy for mounting things such as lapel microphones or monitors etc. A similar design to the A7Sii Battery Grip Cage.
The top corners should be more form fitting to the body of the camera.
Some time of clamp similar to the HDMI clamp on other cages for holding in the USBC cable. This could be done by Putting small threads on the back side of the left hand support, therefore not needing to expand the cage larger
An additional accessory that could be sold separately is a clamp that holds a Samsung T5 SSD securely that could also have some kind of cable retention mechanism.
Also on the front where the “Smallrig” logo currently is should be screw holes where a metabones speed booster support can go
Would be awesome to see a half cage and rounded corners hugging the camera more. If you stick with the full cage only it would be great to have the grip side of the cage milled out of a thinner alloy, like 1.5mm. to make it less bulky. While these cameras will certainly get rigged out into production mode, it would be great to make things a slim as possible for when they are not.
It would be cool if you had the metabones speedbooster screw holes like the GH4 cage has to mount the SmallRig Lens Adapter Support for Metabones 1787.
3 items need to be added to this design:
1 - as mentioned prior. Slots to add a velcro sun hood like other small rig cages
2 - This is even bigger oversight. A second 1/4-20 or 3/8 hole on the bottom so that when a baseplate is connected there isn't any twisting!! BM were nice enough to give us 2 mounting points (top and bottom) so lets enhance that with a cage which has 2 mounting points below. This would solve so much issues that other small cameras have (ie twisting) when you start to add accessories.
3 - As others have mentioned incorporating nato rails into the frame would be nice too like other small rig camera cages
This camera will have a lot of mounting points needed for all the configurations people have in mind since this is a pretty open device ie power and storage possibilities
Hope this helps. Cheers!
Really thanks for suggestions, our designers will contact customer via email soon.
Would like to see NATO railed sides/top to this cage.
Some kind of cable strain relief bracket off the left side (like USB tethered shooting protectors on still camera set ups) would be a welcomed addition to protect the array of ports on that side of the camera.
Some kind of method to mount/clamp an external SSD securely to the cage would be a big help. Since this will shoot direct to a drive via UCB-C, having a way to physically mount that media to the cage will help.
I second the sunhood/screen protector idea, especially if easily detachable.
Integrated NATO rails on top and sides, as well as an integrated Arca Swiss plate on the bottom (as seen on other Smallrig cages) would be very welcome too.
A lighter half cage option would also be a good option.
