Filmed low and circling the cobblestones of a round tulou, the film drops you into the heart of a Spring Festival Yingge dance—painted faces, clashing staffs, dancers leaping to the thunder of the drum. Chased from daylight into lantern-lit night, it shows Chinese New Year at its most alive: a centuries-old war dance not kept behind glass, but thundering through the courtyard, raw and still being passed on.
