SmallRig Lightweight Matte Box 2660 is designed to block the sun or other light source in order to prevent glare and lens flare, with interchangeable mounting systems that suit cinema or DSLR lenses. The matte box comes with a 114mm clamp that allows you to mount it directly onto a 114mm cine lens, and the included 67-114mm, 72-114mm, 77-114mm, 82-114mm threaded adapter rings allow you to use the matte box with lenses of different diameters. Separately available 95-114mm Adapter Ring 2661 can be used for cine-style lenses. It supports up to two standard 4 x 4” or 4 x 5.65" filters with 4mm thickness without the use of filter trays and features two independent thumbscrews to keep the filters in place. The filters can be easily pushed out from the side without leaving fingerprints on the filters by unscrewing the top thumbscrew. An included carbon fiber top flag helps block veiling glare or bright reflections from striking your lens and can be folded down to cover the front of the matte box as well as provide protection to the front of your lens. The matte treatment of the matte box is anti-reflective designed to prevent internal reflections from strong light sources. Featuring four 1/4"-20 threads on the top that allow you to mount additional accessories. Besides, this matte box can be configured to fit on 15mm LWS rods with the separately available 15mm Rod Clamp 2663.

I got this mattebox to use specifically on MōVI Pro builds. Rental houses don't always have Misfit Atoms, Zip Boxes, or other lightweight options available, and for $100 it was a no brainer to buy this and toss it in my kit.
I do wish however that you could remove the carbon fiber hood, similarly to a Misfit Atom rubber hood that just pulls off. I attempted to by removing the small allen screws holding the hood on, but unfortunately the ridges that hold the filters in place are built into the frame of the hood. So if you pull the hood off, it's not a useable mattebox. Bummer. Maybe a revision down the road will improve this, but for now I have an inexpensive but well made mattebox to use in a pinch.
Incredibly light weight and a very simple design. Perfect for hand held rigs and even some strong gimbals. Feels durable enough but I would not beat it up too much due to the thin carbon fiber material. My biggest complaint is the lack of threaded lens mounts (internal threads). It will be very difficult to use my variable nd filter and polarizer. Having lens mounts threads on both the outside and inside would allow the use of both spherical filters and 4x4 filters.
This is not a deal breaker and I highly recommend this matte box. Hopefully SMALLRIG takes my advice and implements this on future updates.
I pre-ordered the matte box, along with the accessory rail mount bracket. They arrived recently and I've had a chance to test. I'm very impressed!
I also have the Tilta Mini box. If you are trying to decide between the two, I recommend this box.
While both are well constructed, the SmallRig is more robust and better designed. Having two filter slots is a big plus. I don't have any glass filters, but I actually used my Cokin Pro filters in the slots with no problem.
If you are doing stills or video work with no filters or standard screw mount filters, the box works fine with the adapter ring. When doing video work, I use a variable ND filter to allow me to shoot at a constant aperture. It has no threads, since it needs to rotate. That's when the accessory bracket is a life saver. I just mount the box with the bracket on rails and choose an adapter ring slightly larger than the filter. I place the box slightly forward, adjust the ND filter, then back up the box flush with the front of the filter.
The graphic on the flag is easily removed. and the flag lock works great. I had to tighten it very slightly with the provided wrench for a more secure lock.
This is another well designed, high quality item from SmallRig! Buy with confidence!
