Sony's RX100 series is catered for photographers of ALL TIER who wants to travel light. It includes features like pop up EVF, aperture ring adjustment (can be configured) and focal length up to 200mm all with thoughts of allowing their users to shoot just like any professionals would, leaving out the most important ergonomic - GRIP. Although Sony does have its own accessory - A stick-on grip AG-R2. That, however, is almost as good as redundant as it still doesn't allow its user to hold the tiny camera comfortably and confidently with both hands. Thanks to Smallrig, for coming out with the L-shape wooden grip which I bought it less than 3 weeks ago. Although it slightly increases the size of this compact camera, it made it just nice for anyone to go into the correct posture of shooting with EVF and yet maintaining the minimum size possible. However, as I got this for the RX100 Mark 6, I realised there is one flaw that Smallrig overlooked. The bottom screw that attaches the rig to the camera blocks the battery door from opening. I hope Smallrig can relook into its feasibility of this current grip and redesign one for RX100Mark 6 onwards.
An excellent and I would go so far as saying indispensable addition to the Sony RX100, it fits perfectly onto the IV and also the original version I too. Well finished and both looks and feels great on the camera.
Gambled on picking this up for my RX100 I/first version, and it paid off! Fits very well, with the only limitation being the outer edge of the battery/SD door lightly snags on the grip. If you have any nails at all, you can easily release this to change your battery/card. Or you can lightly file <1mm from the very edge of the door or inner grip to make it swing open freely. Either way, it's THE best feeling grip for the RX100 I I've found, due to the tall grip area. Looks snazzy, too. ;)
Bevare ! Don`t buy it for Sony RX100 VI ! I did not pay attention and bought it for my Sony RX100 VI. You will be not able to open the battery and SD card door. I love the design but for me is useless.
Just got this in today and at the price I wasn't expecting much... But it's really nice, the fit and finish is 9/10. The wood has some really light machining marks from when it was shaped but other than that it's perfect. Super light and adds just the right amount of additional grip and height to make it easier to use. I'd have preferred a thumb screw for the mount instead of a screw driver, but I doubt I'll be removing it enough to really need that.
